Four-Week Wheel Throwing Pottery Course in South London

This four-week Wheel Throwing Pottery Course in South London introduces students to the core techniques of working on the pottery wheel, from centring clay to creating finished, functional ceramic forms. Designed for beginners and those with some prior experience, this structured course offers a supportive, hands-on environment where students can build confidence and skill through repetition, guided practice, and individualised instruction.

Over four focused weeks, students progress through the essential building blocks of wheel throwing:

  • Week 1 – Centring: Learn to prepare and centre clay on the wheel, the foundation of every successful throw, while developing control and an understanding of clay behaviour.

  • Week 2 – Pulling: Master opening the clay and pulling even walls to create height and consistency in your forms.

  • Week 3 – Shaping: Develop and refine shapes such as cylinders, bowls, cups, and vessels, focusing on form, proportion, and control.

  • Week 4 – Bringing It All Together: Combine every technique to throw finished a piece, then explore trimming, surface finishing, and basic glazing to complete your pottery.

Held at Goodmood Pottery, this ceramics course in London takes place in a calm, encouraging studio environment with small class sizes to ensure personalised feedback. By the end of the four weeks, students will have produced a collection of functional pottery pieces and gained the foundational skills needed to continue working independently on the wheel. This course balances technical development with creative exploration, fostering patience, focus, and craftsmanship in every session.
